This program will produce skilled LHVs to overcome the shortage of trained female health professionals in our country and abroad.
Objectives
The program of Lady Health Visitor aims to: Prepare competent, committed, and knowledgeable LHVs for hospital and community-based health settings. Produce LHVs who will integrate evidence-based knowledge into practice for the care of women, children, and families. Enable LHVs to meet future healthcare challenges, including changes in technology and community health practices. Educate LHVs with appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes with strong clinical and community competency. Develop LHVs who can provide preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative health services to rural and urban populations. Initiate leadership roles in planning, implementing, and evaluating healthcare programs at the community level.
Case Study
The Lady Health Visitor (LHV) program is a 2-year diploma program. The initial semesters cover basic medical sciences, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and community health. Subsequently, students are exposed to advanced studies in maternal and child health, family planning, nutrition, immunization, and communicable disease control. The clinical teaching will be undertaken in both hospital and community settings to bridge theory with practice, ensuring that students develop strong clinical and community-based skills in healthcare delivery.
Career Opportunities
An LHV graduate is prepared to be a safe and effective healthcare provider who can deliver comprehensive maternal, child, and community health services at primary and secondary levels. In addition, LHVs can pursue higher education in nursing, midwifery, or public health. In Pakistan, there is a great demand for qualified LHVs in government health programs, NGOs, rural outreach initiatives, and private healthcare facilities. Interested candidates can join this profession and make it a lifelong career.
