About
This program is being offered by Al-Biruni Institute of Medical and Health Sciences. The objectives of this program are to produce competent Community Midwives to practice with efficiency in the field of maternal and child health, antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, and safe delivery practices. This program will produce skilled midwives to overcome the scarcity of trained maternal health workers in our country and abroad.
Case Study
The Community Midwife program is a 2-year diploma program. The initial semesters cover basic medical sciences, anatomy, physiology, community health, and communication skills. Subsequently, students are exposed to advanced studies in midwifery, obstetrics, newborn care, and family planning. The clinical teaching will be undertaken in hospital and community settings to bridge theory with practical experience, ensuring that students gain hands-on skills in real-life maternal care situations.

Objectives
The program of Community Midwifery aims to: Prepare competent, committed, and knowledgeable midwives for hospital and community-based settings. Produce midwives who will integrate evidence-based study into clinical practice for the care of mothers, newborns, and families. Enable midwives to meet future challenges, including changes in technology and healthcare practices. Educate midwives with appropriate knowledge, skill, and attitude with clinical competency. Develop midwives who can provide preventive, curative, and rehabilitative maternal health services to populations in rural and urban settings. Initiate a leadership role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of maternal and child healthcare at the community level.
Career opportunites
A Community Midwife graduate is prepared to be a safe maternal and child healthcare provider who will be able to deliver comprehensive care at primary and community levels, including home births and outreach services. In addition, midwives can pursue further qualifications in nursing, public health, or obstetrics and gynecology. In Pakistan, there is a huge shortage of qualified maternal health workers, and their demand is on the rise due to the development of healthcare facilities. Interested candidates can join this profession and make it a rewarding career.
